(More customer reviews)I purchased this violin for my wife, an adult over 50 and we have no children left at home. The children are married or off to college and do not live close by. I stated this because I didn't want anyone to think that some child was messing with this violin.
The violin has trouble keeping tuned. Also the bow cracked before my wife had a chance to use it. She is taking lessons from an elderly lady who has complained about the violin strings becoming loose too easily.
I would highly recommend looking for another product.

Antique Style Natural Color Full Size 4/4 Violin Review

(More customer reviews)I waited breathlessly for 4 days, and when it came, I opened the packaging and case to find the violin, and boy was I disappointed.
The violin was mailed with the bridge installed which is a big No-NO (I'm suspecting that they sent me a used violin that someone else returned), And then I noticed They Sent Me The Wrong Violin!, AND if that's not bad enough the Bow snapped as soon as I tightened it and started rosining it! Not to mention they say its genuine horse hair, but in reality its synthetic!
I don't know about their other instruments but their violins are horrid, terrible, crap, and wort of all they sound cheap. They were prompt at emailing me a return slip at no charge, however, I waited a Week and a half after they received the violin back and there still was no refund (its supposed to be immediate), I had heard of other people never getting a refund from them so I emailed them again explaining and that I had not received my refund, they refunded me $[...] (I had payed $[...] not including shipping which was free) but after all of that, I was happy to get at least something back! After searching around there were numerous other people I found who've all had the same problems as me. DO.NOT.ORDER
( You cant contact them by phone, that should have told me something right then and there)
If you want a violin go to a good place and rent to own one, or even just rent one! I'm renting a beautiful one for only [...] a month 2 years and i own it that's including insurance.
I'm going to put this in the other violin reviews as well. Please, save your self and your money!

I have been unable to get ahold of Gracemall to discuss exchanging for another color. It is very difficult to find contact info to talk to someone. This was a Christmas present for a little girl who was disappointed by the ugly color and now it looks as though it cannot be exchanged. Anyone have any ideas on how to get ahold of Gracemall? Amazon seems to not want to give any info about them on the website.

Full Size Violin 4 x 4 With Case - Dark Blue Review

(More customer reviews)First off, the color is cerulean, not dark blue. Second, it didn't come with a bridge, but when they sent the bridge, it did not have those notches or spaces to put the strings in, and the poor quality wood gave me a splinter. Third, Half of the dang instrument isn't even real wood. Fourth, the string came out of one of the pegs. Fifth, I found many other violins for the same price as this piece of crap to be real maple and ebony wood, and have everything included. Sixth, the bow hair was stained red. Seventh, the paint they used on the violin was cheap and looked as if it would fade very soon. Eighth, The fingerboard had oil on it. (So far, it looks like it was used) Ninth, three bow hair pieces already came out the day I took the violin out of the box. Tenth, the red case pictured above was really tan when it had arrived. Eleventh, the strings are really cheap and are not at all intended for professionals or something to last long. Twelfth, the rosin I received was all messy and already used, and some of it was chipped. Thirteenth, the leather on the bow hair where you put your index finger when playing is coming off. Fourteenth, the lines on the outside look like someone just ran a sharpie across to make it. Fifteenth, this thing is a complete waste of money!!!!

The cheap wood bows are often warped, the fingerboard and nut are made of inexpensive wood (instead of ebony) that will wear easily, and cases of this quality seldom last the school year. Making the instrument and bow playable would cost as much as the kit. Save time and money, look at rentals at a local music shop. If you really want to purchase a violin, invest the extra money now on a better quality instrument; you will save money later on repair costs.

Palatino VN-450-1/2 Antonius Violin Outfit, 1/2 Size Review

(More customer reviews)This review is for the full size 4/4 Palatino NV-450. I'm addressing some unfair negative reviews posted regarding the smaller size (1/4) of this same instrument.
Ok the first negative review is by someone who admits to not even having touched one himself. The second, I think isin't being fair.
Look, this is a beginners instrument. I bought this with 0 hours of experience playing the violin (at age 26 by the way). I bought this and started lessions with a highly reputed teacher located in the area of Berklee College of Music in Boston. The teacher had nothing but positive comments about the instrument.
It's solid spruce and maple and the pegs, fingerboard and chinrest are solid ebony. That's essentially what teachers are looking for in a student instrument. No violin "holds it's tune". That's why there's tuning pegs and fine tuners (this instrument has 4 fine tuners by the way really helping the student get accustomed to tuning). All good accoustic violins are made of wood and as such are subject to expansion and contraction in changing temperature and humidity conditions. When the wood contracts a bit, the pegs can become loose and require retuning, some peg drops can help reduce this but not eliminate it. The bridge is an average stock bridge. A student looking for an entry level instrument (like myself) hasn't often the money nor time to consult and hire a luthier to custom shave and fine tune thier bridge. I find the bridge that comes with this instrument, in it's stock condition carries the vibration from the strings to the body effectively and actually quite loud.
I will agree however that the bow it comes with has warped slightly and I'm looking for a replacement now. But heck, after two years with this instrument and a couple of sets of replacement strings, I'm more than happy with it's performance.
It's not a $10,000 violin, and doesn't claim to be. It's an entry level student voilin that I only spent about $150 on a couple years ago and have progressed quite a long way on.

(More customer reviews)I bought this product thinking it would be a good beginners violin for myself. My standards were kind of low...and I have to say that when I received this package I was disappointed.
1.) The color you see in the picture is not correct. It's more of a [really shiny] blueish-green. It's not a pretty color. Plus, it wasn't painted very well. There are paint dots where a clump has dried, on the front!
2.) The strings where tangled up. Took me forever to fix it.
3.) The strings were not placed in the correct order to begin with. [1243?]
4.) String 1 [being G] was broken at the top close to the peg-- and couldn't be correctly tuned.
5.) I couldn't get one of the pegs to stay in its place.
All in all, the violin I received made my low standards seem like a far-off distant place. Unreachable by the violin entirely.
However, I do actually believe that if you restring it as soon as you get it -- it might not seem so bad. The bow is pretty durable. Also, the wood is nice. Better than some.

(More customer reviews)When you first get them, there are no holes to out strings through, so you have to pay a luthier to do that. Then they are too big, so you have to get them fitted to your violin/viola. It gets expensive. ($40-$65) BUT!
They are beatiful! It is easier to tune to the most accurate! Fine tuners are a thing of the past (EXCEPT E String for violin, but viola take them all off)! 3 Stars for overall price, and good looks and accuracy.

(More customer reviews)My experience with this product is great. I decided to start learning how to play violin. I decided to start with a cheap one. This one seemed like the way to go because the only negative reviews I read were contradicted by the helpful description. I paid only about 20 dollars for shipping and that was to receive it 3 days after I ordered. When I got it I just followed the instructions they sent to my email, installed the bridge, and tuned it. Then I plucked the strings to stretch them and retune a few times and before long they stopped slipping. It took a while, and reading up on rosin before I could get the bow to work but now I'm good to go, very happy with my purchase, and ready to find an instructor.

Desiring more rugged protection for my primary violin, I purchased this sturdy case.
There were several critical issues with this case.
1. This case was too narrow to accommodate either of my two (dimensionally typical) 4/4 "real" violins or my (somewhat slim) electric violin.
2. The bottom bow holder wasn't deep enough for a full sized bow (manufacturing defect?)
3. The "lining" of the case, while soft, was a shaggy substance, certain to capture rosin and eventually damage the violin's oil/varnish.
4. The top bow holder, while deep enough, exerted _sideways_ pressure on the bow (which will ruin a wood bow).
