It screams machine made. the bridge was cut too low for the A string, and wasn't curved enough for the G/C, not giving you enough space for bowing btwn them. i suggest you take this instrument to a violin maker and fork over the $200 to fit a REAL bridge.
2. the strings are cheap and bad. upgrade them.
3. the soundpost was off. when you get a new bridge tell the violin maker to take a look at the sound post and see if there is anything he can do.
4. cheap case.
in all, this is a good starter but be prepared to spend at least an extra $300 to get it up to standards.

The strings and bridge are not very durable/strong, after a tuning one bridge cracked, and after a few months of use one string is starting to "peel" The bow itself had many loose hairs (when tightened) when it arrived, and weekly, some strings start to easily fall out. Another con is that the bridge is not cut, so you'll need to send it into a string shop to do so for around $30-$40. Overall it does produce a nice sound and is good for maybe a High School string student.

I have been unable to get ahold of Gracemall to discuss exchanging for another color. It is very difficult to find contact info to talk to someone. This was a Christmas present for a little girl who was disappointed by the ugly color and now it looks as though it cannot be exchanged. Anyone have any ideas on how to get ahold of Gracemall? Amazon seems to not want to give any info about them on the website.

Second, it didn't come with a bridge, but when they sent the bridge, it did not have those notches or spaces to put the strings in, and the poor quality wood gave me a splinter. Third, Half of the dang instrument isn't even real wood. Fourth, the string came out of one of the pegs. Fifth, I found many other violins for the same price as this piece of crap to be real maple and ebony wood, and have everything included. Sixth, the bow hair was stained red. Seventh, the paint they used on the violin was cheap and looked as if it would fade very soon. Eighth, The fingerboard had oil on it. (So far, it looks like it was used) Ninth, three bow hair pieces already came out the day I took the violin out of the box. Tenth, the red case pictured above was really tan when it had arrived. Eleventh, the strings are really cheap and are not at all intended for professionals or something to last long. Twelfth, the rosin I received was all messy and already used, and some of it was chipped. Thirteenth, the leather on the bow hair where you put your index finger when playing is coming off. Fourteenth, the lines on the outside look like someone just ran a sharpie across to make it. Fifteenth, this thing is a complete waste of money!!!!

(More customer reviews)I bought this product thinking it would be a good beginners violin for myself. My standards were kind of low...and I have to say that when I received this package I was disappointed.
1.) The color you see in the picture is not correct. It's more of a [really shiny] blueish-green. It's not a pretty color. Plus, it wasn't painted very well. There are paint dots where a clump has dried, on the front!
2.) The strings where tangled up. Took me forever to fix it.
3.) The strings were not placed in the correct order to begin with. [1243?]
4.) String 1 [being G] was broken at the top close to the peg-- and couldn't be correctly tuned.
5.) I couldn't get one of the pegs to stay in its place.
All in all, the violin I received made my low standards seem like a far-off distant place. Unreachable by the violin entirely.
However, I do actually believe that if you restring it as soon as you get it -- it might not seem so bad. The bow is pretty durable. Also, the wood is nice. Better than some.

(More customer reviews)In violin circles we talk about violins and VSO's. A VSO is a violin shaped object. The reputation that Palitinos have among violin teachers and players is as VSOs. There are other inexpensive brands that will give you more violin for the money like the Cremonas, but the Palitinos are pretty crummy.
I know what it is like to be poor and not to be able to afford a decent instrument. I know that from having struggled to learn the guitar on 15 buck stellas back in the 1960s. However, if you can possibly wait and save up two or three hundred dollars, you can get a decent enough student violin to be worth it. You will see the difference. For a new person, often the difference might be having an instrument that discourages a beginner from playing and an instrument that will get the fun of playing the fiddle or violin to be a permanent part of your life.
Unless you know about violins, don't buy one on the Net, that you haven't actually played. Find a violin teacher, or someone from the many online groups for beginning violinists--I recommend Yahoo's Beginning Adult Violinist group which has thousands of members all over the US and beyond--who can give you advice, go with you to a store or help you make an online purchase.
Here are a few tips I have learned since I first started buying and playing inexpensive violins in the past few years.
Setup, is very crucial for a violin's sound even for an inexpensive violin. Setup involves the placement of the bridge, what size bridge and how the sound post is properly place under the bridge, something that is hard to do an requires precision. Finding a luthier who will set up a violin for you, and perhaps put decent strings on it, can make a big difference in buying a violin at any price. For someone buying an inexpensive violin it is something relatively inexpensive that can help the sound.
Likewise, the bow is often as important to your sound as your fiddle itself. Moreover, someone with little cash can more easily move up from the 10 or 20 buck bow that comes with these cheap fiddles to a 100 buck bow, than they can move up from a 300 dollar fiddle (most things that cost less are VS0s) to a 800 or 1000 buck fiddle.
Finally, buying fiddles on ebay is even more of a trap than buying one online without advice. There are plenty of vsos up on EBay and plenty of people who are selling cheap violin sets like these as used violins for even more money.
I will repeat what I said before. Don't buy a violin simply from an Internet Ad. Find a violin teacher, or someone from the many online groups for beginning violinists--I recommend Yahoo's Beginning Adult Violinist group which has thousands of members all over the US and beyond--who can give you advice, go with you to a store or help you make an online purchase.

(More customer reviews)Purchased this item two months ago. Within 1 week I had to replace a peg that broke in two while tuning it. Then yesterday I opened the case to find that the end pin broke, causing the tailpiece to go flying, rendering the instrument useless. In essence, I got two months of use out of it. To repair it will cost three times the purchase price. It would have been cheaper to rent a quality instrument. Although the red lacquer makes for an attractive instrument,the sound quality was poor. So save yourself grief and go to your local music store and rent a quality instrument.

(More customer reviews)After unpacking, tuning, & playing this violin, I found all it needed was a set of quality strings! After changing the strings and re-tuning, the sound was fantastic! After the break-in period for the new strings, I suspect it will sound even better! This violin is pleasing to the eye, well-made, nice finish. The inside of the violin states it is made in Romania with european wood. It is a copy of a Stradivarius. It does have a solid maple back and sides, the back is not highly flamed, which I expected for the price, but who looks at the back of the violin while you are playing??? It was easy to tune and after playing for several minutes and re-tuning, it seems to be staying in tune. This violin is above-average for the price, very nice! I don't like the thermoplastic case, but I can live with it, the violin itself is worth it! Also worth mentioning, is the case has a special place for a shoulder rest. If you order this violin, pick up some rosin somewhere, because they don't send you any - again, no big deal. Why waste your money on a cheap "Made in Ch___" violin from a music shop, when you can spend an extra $50.00 and have a really nice violin? I will recommend to my students! THANK YOU AMAZON!
