I was surprised I did not find any packaged extra strings. I was also surprised to see that some hair came out from the bow very easily, which almost led me to believe that this bow needed re-hairing. It seems that this instrument can produce a good resonating forward sound, which at times have to control by backing the note dynamics off. I was not able to find a logo indicating where this cello was originally made at. The bridge was slightly too high. Because my original plan was to use the instrument in my church only and not professionally, this full-size instrument works very well with me. Thank you!

The strings and bridge are not very durable/strong, after a tuning one bridge cracked, and after a few months of use one string is starting to "peel" The bow itself had many loose hairs (when tightened) when it arrived, and weekly, some strings start to easily fall out. Another con is that the bridge is not cut, so you'll need to send it into a string shop to do so for around $30-$40. Overall it does produce a nice sound and is good for maybe a High School string student.

(More customer reviews)I just got this instrument about 20 minutes before the UPS was going to close which was nice but anyways, just utterly fabulous instrument, what you get is all you need. No need for super sensitive strings or anything and the bow is more than good enough for this packaged price. I took the instrument out and UNLIKE OTHERS used my brain and wondered why would they not set the bridge? hmmm MAYBE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE AMAZING INSTRUMENT. So i set the bridge pretty easily with help from my mom since i didn't feel comfortable tightening the strings on the finger board and just slipped the bridge in the center the the f-holes, you'll notice little notches in the center on the f-holes and just put the bridge their but remember to place it a bit closer to the soundpost which is on the left side of the instrument and also tilt the bridge a bit backwards so when you tighten the strings it doesn't bend the bridge. So then i rosined the bow for about 20 minutes and tried the instrument. Pure bliss, beautiful sound but i did have a problem, which was my own fault. Before tuning the strings, if you feel that its a little harder than it should be go to the tailpiece and check where the end the of string is. You'll see a little cylinder that holds the string in place, make sure its not in some sort of funny angle, make sure its nice and even and flat because I broke a string like that, thank amazon for the amazing deal that comes with a NEW SET OF STRINGS. So yea over all great, and I will be reporting back once I go to my teacher and see if he approves of the instrument he's very very good and well known so if he approves of it any teacher will. Oh and sorry Amazon for the 4 out 5, I gave that because I kinda disliked the Cecilio logo/name on the back on the instrument, unappealing :P but in general great.

The SV-130 violin can be played with earphones or even with an amp.
It has a very rich sound and i personally recomend it for intermediate violin players.
It came perfectly packaged nicely, however my country had tax for musical instrument of 10% so to any of you who are thinking of purchasing this instrument please check your country's taxes.
The strings arent that bad but the G string broke when I was tuning it. I would recomend a full set restring, and the pegs wouldnt hold too well.
The bow seems pretty descent too. The only problematic part about this violin is the Gig Bag provided. PLEASE DO NOT GO FOR THE GIG BAG. Just buy the violin. The bag does not fit the violin properly and the violin has to be inverted in order to be inserted into the bag.
The reason i rated it 4 stars and not 5 is mainly because of the bag and strings. Other than that, it is an awesome buy. Furthermore it's price is also reasonable. For sound quality as such, 700 dollars is a very low sum to pay.

Cecilio CVN-500 Ebony Antique Finish Flamed 1/2 Size Orchestra Violin with Case and Accessories Review

(More customer reviews)This was my daughter's second instrument, after three years of learning on the first one. Both my wife and I are musicians. I ordered with some trepidation, considering the reviews out there that run the mix of both extremes. I went ahead, considering the shipping was free, so return wouldn't be that costly (the price of return shipping).
We had the violin for almost two years now. All in all, it was definitely worth more than $200. The tone was actually quite good, considering the size (1/2). The instrument came pre-strung, the sound post was in proper place, the bridge was positioned well and shaped correctly, so the strings and fingers had proper distance from the fingerboard. The instrument holds tune remarkably well. Also, the bows were very good and held up throughout all this time, without hairs coming loose. We received an extra set of strings, and none were needed yet.
After two years, my daughter has outgrown this instrument. I ordered a larger size, but from another vendor (a no-name Chinese one for $100), and it was bad. I had just ordered a new Cecilio CVN-500 (same as this one), but the larger size (3/4). I'm hoping it will be as good as our old one was.
About the only thing that was somewhat useless was the tuning pipe. It is a little toy, since it is completely unreliable and almost always off-key (we have a piano at home, which is always properly tuned).
Let me make one thing clear. This is a Chinese made instrument, and it seems that the factory where it is made does not have a bullet-proof quality control. There is a small (but noticeable) percentage of these instruments that leave the factory in rather poor shape. In other words, quality of these violins can apparently be inconsistent. I know two other parents who had Cecilio student violins, and they were quite satisfied with them (and I've seen and heard those instruments, and they were quite good). My personal experience was positive, and I'm hoping my next one will be as well.
Your mileage may vary. Make sure you can return it in time, if something goes wrong.
[follow-up to the original review, now that I've had the new Cecilio for 3 months]:
The new violin is also excellent, like the prior ones. Gentle tone, holds tune well, well-shaped bridge and fingerboard, so it looks like excellent value for money. My previous review still stands.

(More customer reviews)Sounds good for a cheaply made violin. More bright though I would prefer a darker sound. I like how there is a volume knob on top of the violin. There's a Yamaha electric violin where the knob is on the bottom and is unreachable if you're in playing position. The mechanics work very well. It doesn't feed back. Not bad for the price. The case it comes with broke right away. It's absolutely a piece of junk as is the bow. I immediately changed the strings to Dominant strings which made it sound better.
If you need an electric violin and don't have the money to get a good one, this violin gets the job done. Not the best, but what do you expect for the price?

I like it because it highlights the quality sound of my violin with no feedback. It is small and compact and folds away nicely in my violin case. What I like is that it's portable and I can use it with any of my violins. It's definately worth every penny :-)
