(More customer reviews)I tried a number of carbon fiber bows at about the same price range, and the JonPaul had the best balance. It also might have been a bit lighter in weight. The shape of the "stick" and the frog felt more comfortable in my hand than the others. Needless to say, you would not find a wooden bow anywhere near the quality for ca. $300.

(More customer reviews)This is one of my favorite e strings, although lately it is erratically available. It combines well with many different string combinations for the G, D, and A. Many people recommend it to top off Dominants, making the entire violin sound fundamentally more ringing and brilliant. I have used it with Visions, Infeld Blues, as well as Dominants, and find that it just feels more responsive and open than the native e strings of those sets. It gives my violin a more open and ringing sound, and it lasts a long time, more than a year, where I feel I'm just changing it out because of time, and felt not much difference between a new string and the old one. It never squeaks ever!
It has a nice clear sound all the way up the fingerboard, is great for doublestops involving both the open e and the fingered e string. I think it's the string for you to play Vivaldi's Winter.

I purchased this Kaplan string out of that frustration. I have been using it for 3 months now, and amazingly, no squeals!! My Suzuki instructor played on it
to see if it had good sound quality, it sounded amazing when she played through all the shifts on it. I recommend this string highly if you are likewise frustrated with changing from the A string to an open E, and nothing but a "whistle" comes out!! Karen Ellenberger, N.C.

Pirastro Passione 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge with Ball End E Review

(More customer reviews)These strings have received rave reviews from violinist. Do a search and read for yourself. They are in a class of their own.
Most gut strings are unstable but have more undertones. Synthetic strings are far more stable but do not have the full undertones of gut strings, although the better synthetic strings come close. The Pirasatro Passione strikes a compromise between the two. Passione strings are gut strings, but they are more stable than most gut strings. You get more undertones than synthetic stings without almost as good stability.
Who should use these strings? Advanced violin players. Students probably should stick with the more affordable and time-tested Dominants (but with a different E string) or another synthetic string, such as Vision Solo or Larsen Tzigane. Evah Pirazzi strings are also excellent strings for advanced players, but their high tension make them unsuitable for most users and many violins. Ultimately, strings interact with the differing characteristics of violins, and different strings sound different on different violins. You have to experiment. If you are a student, maybe stick with Dominants (except the E) and then experiment once you advance.
If you are looking for the best overall strings and are willing to pay more, because you are an advanced player, buy the Passione strings.

(More customer reviews)When my "A" string broke I decided I had enough with crappy strings (the violin was a gift so I have no idea what brand of strings was used before I took ownership of it) and decided to try this set. I have stretched them for days now as recommended and although it is a vast improvement from the last set I had, the Pirastro ended up being the star of the show. The other 3 strings (Dominants) sound a bit dull as opposed to bright and full of color like the "E" string. I'll see how it all plays out, no pun intended and will keep posting updates on this review. But as for now, I'm leaning towards getting the entire Pirastro set next time.
