(More customer reviews)The violin I received was in good shape, except for one minor scratch in the varnish on the back. But the wood itself wasn't damaged. The sound of the violin is very nice. If I had it to do over again, knowing what I know, I would buy this violin. The only genuine drawback was the low quality of the strings that came with the violin. Buy replacement string if you buy this violin.

(More customer reviews)I decided to learn how to play the violin, so I went searching for one that was decent for beginners and not very expensive. When I saw a photo of this silver violin, I fell in love with it and immediately purchased it. Well, the pros are that this violin come with pretty much everything you'd need as a beginner. You get a case, tuner (BONUS!), the bow and rosin. I went out and bought my own violin mute so that I could practice without annoying those around me. The con is that you can clearly tell that the violin was spray painted because there is a part on the back of the violin that is unpainted, but it isn't very noticeable. Overall, I would recommend Music Basics instruments and this particular violin to others.

This violin kit comes complete with violin, bow, case, rosin, and a free violin tuner worth $20. Violin comes with a metal tailpiece with 4 tuners - making tuning easy. The bow comes with real horsehair providing solid playability and sound volume. Violin comes with bridge already setup and ready to play. Anton Breton VP-50 4/4 Violin Mute Review

(More customer reviews)When my wife and I moved into a smaller house the ability to practice the violin became severally hampered. She may be fond of the instrument, however the same song played four hundred times over and over again can get on just about anyones nerves. Things were getting bad enough that we were seriously considering purchasing an electric violin for practice just so she would not have to listen to everything I played. I had heard of mutes in the past but never considered them a viable option, seemed like their would be no way to mute a violin without interfering without significantly interfering with the tone. I was proven wrong and this little gym works wonders by reducing the vibration of the bridge and making it quite enough that now I only have to be in the next room, not the next house over.
This is a must have for anyone wishing to practice and not interested in letting everyone in the house listen to your pre-performance. Additionally, now that I know how this piece works I would recommend a person choose a heavy metal silencer over the rubber options when looking for extreme muting.

Christino Professional Violin Shoulder Rest, 4/4 Review

(More customer reviews)I am sad to report that I was told that Christino no longer makes shoulder rests with collapsable legs due to a patent infringement issue. It is hard to believe that a hinged leg can be patentable -- multiple other brands have folding legs. You can see the original design at the moment in the photos on this listing. I already have two with the foldable legs as pictured. When I made a new order here, I was shipped one with the replacement design, which has non-folding legs with two screw holes to mount them with two choices for angles. One choice tilts the pad forward, one tilts it back. Neither of the angles fits me right, like the old design does. It's a real shame, because of all they were the most comfortable of the 3 kinds I've tried - a Bon Musica, and a Chinese Kun copy. By comfort, I mean, not just the immediate feeling, but I get no neck cramps after hours of use.
The new design means they won't fit in the large pocket of my violin case without unscrewing and removing the legs, a real hassle and invitation to lose parts.
The foam on my 2-year old Christino shoulder rest is getting a bit worn, so I may keep the new item for the parts, which I can attach onto the old folding legs.

The pegs needed a little "tweaking" but this was simply accomplished by the violin teacher. The beauty of it is very nice, especially for one so reasonably priced. For my part, I think that the wood chin rest vs. the black is stunning.

(More customer reviews)When we first took this cheesy piece of plastic out of its poorly wrapped cardboard box, we knew we were in trouble. But we assembled it, anyhow. My son was able to play it for about 4 hours, and then the shoulder rest fell off and the screws holding the clamps into the plastic body started to work out.
This is such a horribly made piece of garbage, I recommend saving your money, and checking out something at a local instrument store so that you can see what you're getting.
Face it--you're hoping (as was I) to buy a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT for under $80. What can you honestly expect? Actually, for $80, I would expect that it would have lasted for at least a year. Then I wouldn't have complained. But looking at this thing, you can tell--every possible cheap short-cut that the manufacturer COULD have taken, they DID. For instance, those scrws I mentioned--the manufacturer could have used larger screws (they're "0"s or something like that), or they could have used brass inserts into the body....but NOOOO!
It's a piece of garbage. Walk away. You've been warned.
(BTW, we got a white violin, not a yellow. I'm guessing that they're all made in the same mold)
