(More customer reviews)The Glaesel Ebony mute is pretty simply to install, but in time it will slip off little by little.. As for it's job, it does actually mute with a more bassy sound. The downside is that it will "hide" your mistakes made without the mute and the Ebony will stain the bridge black after a week or 2 of use. If you want to preserve your bridge then I suggest trying a different product.

The Original Bernardel Rosin Violin Viola NEW Review

(More customer reviews)For the last few years I've been using rosins such as Hidersine, Dominant, and the expensive Guillaume. But I had a nagging feeling I could still attain something better from my rosin. 6 months ago while I was looking for a new bow, I noted to myself mentally that the luthier used Bernardel rosin. So just last week I decided to order a cake of Bernardel. The results blew away my underwhelming conceptions of the impact of rosin!
I've had some difficulty with slow bowing near the bridge, for that really full sound. Honest as I can be, the second I put this stuff on, all scratching at the sound point nearest the bridge was completely eliminated, and my volume and fullness remarkably augmented.
I next attempted other types of bow strokes, and I became completely blown away by the compliance of this rosin. Literally new nuances have been added to my sound. The off-the string and bouncing strokes have acquired an unbelievable crispness of execution that I had honestly never even conceived. When I attempt ricochet across the four strings successively, the bow pops perfectly on each string, back and forth, with unbelievable articulation.
Employing this product has introduced me to the fact that your sound and your entire way of playing in regards to your right-hand can be revolutionized by a simple and small investment. I highly recommend Bernardel with my utmost confidence! Let me finally add that this rosin produces basically no dust with almost unnoticeable accretion of residue on the top plate and on the bow shaft.

Stagg Folding Wire Music Stand with Carrying Bag Review

(More customer reviews)The Wire Music stand is exactly what it states, a wire music stand.
The extension pieces for the stand, to enable it to be folded out, are of a thin wire like material. With extended use, it is possible that this is a stand that you cannot expect to last for a very long time. I guess the old saying "You get what you pay for" holds true here.
After some playing around with mine I finally got it to unfold. The supports for the top piece were you place the music, are pretty weak and were not caught together. I was actually afraid I was going to break it trying to get it to unfold the first time. I can see that if you place anything that is very heavy on this it could bend, or possibly break.
As for sturdiness, I would say it is pretty sturdy. I have not placed anything really heavy on it, but if you do, I can see that it could tip over. Even when you extend it there is a wing nut that tightens to hold it at the correct angle, but it is tightened onto a thin piece of metal. The base of the top, is pretty thin also. Basically don't put anything too heavy, or any really thick music book on this stand.
There are also page holders that fold over to hold down your pages. I find this very useful for my music books.
The legs are probably the strongest part of the whole thing. As long as you don't hit the stand, or put anything too heavy it should stay pretty sturdy. It holds up to my page turning and pressing the pages under the page holders.
The case is pretty good. It holds the folded up stand very well. You have to be sure to fold it up correctly to get it into the bag. It also comes with a strap that can be used for carrying.

Over all I am satisfied with the purchase. It performs what I want it to do and it was fairly cheap. I would have like to see a little more sturdy construction than it is. Overall if you are looking for something short term, longer term with proper care, this is a good cheap option. I would also recommend this item to any parent with a child taking up a music instrument. A parent may not know if their child will want to stick with the instrument for a long time, and they may not want to put a lot of money into a stand. That is where this could be of benefit.

Korg KDM-2 True Tone Advanced Digital Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)but it doesn't do much more than the less-expensive Korg MA-30. That said, I like the KDM-2 quite a bit. It's an improvement on the KDM-1 (which I like very much also - it's just a more basic metronome), and similarly designed. The KDM-2 shares these features with the MA-30: tap-in beat; subdivided beats; 12 calibrated tuning notes (you can choose the exact tuning - A=440, 441, etc); mute button. The added KDM-2 features: son clave & rumba beats (3-2, and 2-3); choice of 4 different click sounds; LCD display; LED beat indicator; loud volume (I play trumpet & have no problem hearing the metronome), and tempo selection in standard metronomic increments (60, 63, 66, etc) in addition to +/- 1 beats (60, 61, 62, etc).
You should get the KDM-2 instead of the MA-30 if you need the extra latin beats, the different click sounds (at least one of which should cut through most loud playing, or possibly small ensemble volume) or the LED indicator (the light however doesn't seem as strong as that of the KDM-1). If these extras aren't enough, the MA-30 would be an excellent choice.

Fingerboard Tape: Yellow Review

(More customer reviews)I have taught violin for 17 years using Chartpak tapes. The tapes are colorful, easy to see and durable. You easily tear off as much tape as you want no scissors necessary. When it is time to remove the finger tapes from the instrument, no harmful residue is left behind. I have even used the tapes on the violin body itself without injuring the violin.
The tapes to eventually come off the violin, but anything more permanent could be harmful to a delicate instrument. You can get Chartpak tapes in smaller widths (like 1/16 and 1/8) for use on 1/32, 1/16, and 1/8 size violins.
I recommend this product.
