(More customer reviews)I am learning to make native style flutes and bought this tuner to help with tuning the flute. I find it very useful and have now made many flutes. The tuning process requires that you drill a small finger hole and then widen it until you get to the note you are looking for. The difficulty of doing this with wood of different thicknesses and densities means you will end up any particular hole a bit flat or sharp in the process of getting all holes playing together. This tuner does a good job of showing just how flat or sharp I am and I can make judgment call based on that. I am very pleased with this tool.

(More customer reviews)This is a very fine tuner that allows you to tune any instrument, electronic or acoustical, "spot on." For the price I really didn't expect such a nice product. However, after reading about two minutes of instruction, I was accurately tuning my mandolin and guitar. It is very intuitive to use, is battery operated which makes it useful for on the road, and has has such practical features as auto turn off after non-use for 20 minutes so you don't kill your batteries should you forget to turn it off.

(More customer reviews)This review is actually for the Profile PMT-3500. After reading a TON of reviews of different clip-on tuners, I finally took a stab at this one. The price, easy of use, and the built-in metronome snagged my attention. It tunes according to vibration only which works perfect for acoustic guitar especially in louder environments. It picks up the low strings fine for tuning. I would recommend this for any semi-serious, to serious guitar player...it's a little big (compared to other clip-on tuners), but does the job well.

Korg KDM-2 True Tone Advanced Digital Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)but it doesn't do much more than the less-expensive Korg MA-30. That said, I like the KDM-2 quite a bit. It's an improvement on the KDM-1 (which I like very much also - it's just a more basic metronome), and similarly designed. The KDM-2 shares these features with the MA-30: tap-in beat; subdivided beats; 12 calibrated tuning notes (you can choose the exact tuning - A=440, 441, etc); mute button. The added KDM-2 features: son clave & rumba beats (3-2, and 2-3); choice of 4 different click sounds; LCD display; LED beat indicator; loud volume (I play trumpet & have no problem hearing the metronome), and tempo selection in standard metronomic increments (60, 63, 66, etc) in addition to +/- 1 beats (60, 61, 62, etc).
You should get the KDM-2 instead of the MA-30 if you need the extra latin beats, the different click sounds (at least one of which should cut through most loud playing, or possibly small ensemble volume) or the LED indicator (the light however doesn't seem as strong as that of the KDM-1). If these extras aren't enough, the MA-30 would be an excellent choice.

You can get into the ballpark with the note name between the lighted triangles and then more precisely with the meter needle. I like the perfect third option and have used it successfully on the guitar, tuning the g string normally and then going to the perfect third mark for the b string. I also like the ability to use either a mic or just the piezo (vibration) mode. I have a lot of different instruments and some instruments really need a mic: wind instruments, harmonicas, piano, etc. With this ability you can tune your guitar and other instruments to the piano or other untunable instrument so you can all be in tune with each other. Finally, it is very unobtrusive because the little screen folds behind the head of your guitar.

Korg MA-30 Ultra Compact Digital Metronome Review

(More customer reviews)This is chock full of features and hands-down the best budget portable metronome on the market, with only one caveat which'll be mentioned later. A terrific buy for students.
Battery life is great, getting around 200 hours out of two AAs. The display is clear and easy to read. I've dropped it once and it didn't cause any problems. For a digital metronome, the beep isn't an irritating chirp as some other metronomes tend to be.
It can generate any tone on the chromatic scale for manual tuning, and even allows you to adjust the pitch slightly away from A440 if you need to (sometimes necessary, especially for wind players playing outdoors in the extreme cold)
It can handle 1 - 7 beats per measure, and can give you triplets, 8ths or 16th notes on top of that.
It has a handy tap feature to determine tempo.
This isn't perfect, it's not a Dr. Beat (the best metronome on the market, period). The volume control is very sensitive, and if you have it in your pocket you can easily accidentally blast your ears with headphones on. An LED would be a nice addition.
The caveat mentioned earlier is this: Most people prefer a dial to adjust tempo as opposed to the up and down buttons of this model (The Matrix MR500, MR800 and the Seiko SQ50 have less features and lack a volume control, but do have a dial and LED). Still, for the price and the features, you can't beat it.

(More customer reviews)I am not a musician, but I love "playing" the ukulele as a way to amuse myself and relax at the end of a long day. Unfortunately I have trouble tuning my instrument because I am not so blessed with a tin ear. I have trouble determining when I have my uke strings in tune. I can get close, but often an off pitch string sounds OK to me.
I really never heard of an electronic tuner before I discovered the Korg CA-40 as a recommended product based on my purchasing history on the [...]. The price tag on the thing was so cheap I thought I could buy one and gamble that it was a remedy for my problem tuning the ukulele.
The tuner arrived and I was amazed at how easy it was to use and how nice my ukulele sounded once it was tuned properly. The Korg CA-40 "listens" to a string and an easily read screen along with a series of lights tell me what note a given string is sounding. The device automatically shows if a string is sharp or flat so I know to tighten or loosen it on the way to the proper sound.
I read some reviews of the Korg CA-40 by real musicians and was quickly intimidated by jargon and comments I didn't understand. I thought the tuner might be something a genuine amateur would find overly complicated to use. Not so--actually the tuner is probably more useful to a novice with a dumb ear than to the pro with perfect pitch. This thing is a winner.

It features a quarter-inch jack for input and a "+" and "-" key for tuning in another pitch close to what you're in. Say I was in G and wanted to go to G1. Hit the "+" button a couple times, and bam it's now calibrated for that pitch. It comes standard with a small condenser mic built in so you can tune a woodwind instrument, trumpet, acoustic guitar or small squirrel. Whatever you need to tune. Super simple and easy to use, Korg has a reputation for producing the best tuners on the market. Weather it's rackmount tuning you need or the cheap-o $20 CA-1 Korg has you covered. My first one worked until it was lost during a show. I am willing to put money down that it would have worked up until now when I needed to buy another.
To the review that says it's "Tinny" sounding...Dude, that's stupid. It's a tuner. It doesn't have an OUTPUT! You plug in your guitar or bass and tune. You can't say that a tuner has any kind of real sound, since you're not really playing through it. A stomp-box pedal tuner may sound "tinny", but that may only be because it might not be true bypass circuitry used. Anyways, this is a great product and completely mandatory if you play an instrument.

It saves your neck, it frees your hand and arm, and it doesn't really dampen the tone, notwithstanding the old generation's concerns. There are copies out there that are pretty close; but at this price, why bother looking for a sub? I used
