(More customer reviews)I was hopeful for this piece of equipment when I bought one, but was pretty much immediately disappointed, and I'm actually kicking myself not having seen how pointless it was before I bought it.
Functionally, yes, it will mute your banjo, for the minute or two it stays on without having to re-apply pressure to it. You basically have to forcefully wedge the thing onto the bridge (just look at how it's notched... a more ham-fisted approach I can't imagine), and even if you could get the thing to stick for more than a lick or two, there's no possible way to get it to stay without causing damage to the bridge. Metal vs. wood, 'n all.
There are far better options out there. The best was one I'd had years ago, and haven't seen its like since, but I left it with my family band's banjo for my little brother. It was a weighed bar, bullet shaped at both ends, with dual metal plates fluted out and slotted for banjo string spacing that pinched the bridge without too much pressure, but enough to keep it in place. I'd love to find another.

(More customer reviews)Lots of effects can be had with this versatile pedal, which is also easy on the budget. I'm still checking the features out. I find the settings are pushing me to play in certain directions hitherto unexplored. Very cool. The drum beats also try hard to provide variety, and yet, they remain mechanical, acting almost like a pendulum, keeping me on the beat. Good stuff for practice and for working leads around the rhythm. I still have a long way to go before the novelty of this nice piece of engineering wears off.

The sound quality is really pretty poor, so if the child really takes an interest in playing they may become discouraged by the sound quality, and you'll probably want to get a better quality one. Overall, it is something for a child to get their feet wet and see if they enjoy playing. Don't expect that great of sound quality though.

Crescent 4/4 Full Size Violin with Case - Natural Color - Complete Set Review

(More customer reviews)I've wanted to learn the violin for a very long time, but also wanted one at a reasonable price, which in Perth is very hard to find.
Delivery was very prompt, however upon receiving the violin I noticed there was a wooden peg about an inch long stuck inside. After a chopstick, blu-tack and some 10 min worth of manouvering later, it was removed without harm to the instrument.
The rosin provided was pretty average, so I went to our local music store and bought the best German made rosin they had. I got a beautiful tone out of the instrument, nice accoustics, the chin rest was decent. I should also note that it doesn't come with a spare set of strings, unlike some other violins in the same price range here. But it's one of the few companies that ships out of the US, and for the price it certainly didn't feel like a cheap instrument.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, if you are a beginner after a good value violin then I'd certainly recommend the Crescent. Just have some Blu-tack handy.

(More customer reviews)Unless the strings are for a very young player and ease of playing is an issue, I would not recommend them. Red Labels are not capable of producing the tone or timbre that is typically associated with the violin, instead it produces a relatively bright sound reminiscent of acoustic flat top guitar. Though the brightness diminishes with time, a string with broader tonal qualities would be more If you can afford it, try one tier up from these strings, something that's truly "flat-wound". Keep in mind that Red Label strings might actually be quite appropriate for very young players who would benefit from a string that facilitates easy and consistent production of sound from the instrument; violin is a difficult instrument for adults, much more so for kids! I would add that the price is relatively low and therefore appropriate for early ages, where commitment has not yet been established or where budget is a factor. Have fun!
