(More customer reviews)I was hopeful for this piece of equipment when I bought one, but was pretty much immediately disappointed, and I'm actually kicking myself not having seen how pointless it was before I bought it.
Functionally, yes, it will mute your banjo, for the minute or two it stays on without having to re-apply pressure to it. You basically have to forcefully wedge the thing onto the bridge (just look at how it's notched... a more ham-fisted approach I can't imagine), and even if you could get the thing to stick for more than a lick or two, there's no possible way to get it to stay without causing damage to the bridge. Metal vs. wood, 'n all.
There are far better options out there. The best was one I'd had years ago, and haven't seen its like since, but I left it with my family band's banjo for my little brother. It was a weighed bar, bullet shaped at both ends, with dual metal plates fluted out and slotted for banjo string spacing that pinched the bridge without too much pressure, but enough to keep it in place. I'd love to find another.

Pickup Transducer for Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Ukulele, Etc Review

(More customer reviews)I asked at a well known and respected guitar shop in the San Francisco area about installing a pickup in my Pono tenor ukulele which is very nice except that it projects sound back to the player poorly. The shop wanted to put in a similar style (stick on, unamplified piezo soundboard transducer) Fishman pickup for $175. That seemed unreasonable for a $300 instrument. So I found this pickup, read the one review, and figured I'd get it and try it out. Worst case if I didn't like it, I could just pull it out and have the Fishman installed and use this transducer on other instruments in emergencies. Well, it was easy to install and the ukulele sounds great when plugged into our Roland AC-90 acoustic amp. I don't feel like I'm missing anything except the brand name recognition. Try it. I bet you'll like it too.

This is the perfect solution if you need to amplify your instrument and do not want to break the bank but still want a professional setup without having to call in a Luthier. This little transducer is a "hot" pickup and you will be very impressed with the quality at such an inexpensive price. Just mount the transducer inside your instrument with the supplied double stick tape and run the 1/4" jack out a hole that you make in your ideal location and thats it (Transducer has 12" cable to Jack). You can amplify your mandolin, banjo, violin, ukulele, guitar, bass, viola, cello, and just about anything else you can think of. This unit works with a standard 1/4" plug. You can connect it to your PA, mixer, or amplifier. It's that easy to have a professional look and the amplified sound your looking for at a very small price.

Intelli IMT-900 Chromatic Clip-on Tuner w/ Tranposing Review

(More customer reviews)The IMT-900 is a good performer. It is definitely superior to the Korg AT-2, which it replaces. My old Korg AT-2 was still functional but suffered from all of the obvious drawbacks. It was heavy, bulky, slow, and subject to ambient noise. The IMT-900 is light, small, more easily read, much faster, and immune to off-instrument influence. True, the low E on my guitar is a slower read than the other five strings but proper positioning of the tuner makes it easy. One reviewer complained that his IMT-500 was badly scratched when it arrived. Most likely, he failed to read the notice about removing the protective covering from the instrument. The covering is soft and scratches with a fingernail! Underneath is a crystal hard, sparkling clear, polycarbonate plate that looks great. Another reviewer complained that his IMT-500 finally worked after the third new battery. I tested the battery that came with my IMT-900 and it read 3.22 volts. Obviously a fresh lithium cell. Perhaps the reviewer was unfamiliar with CR-2032 installion and finally got it right.
Anyway, I opted for the IMT-900 over the IMT-500 even though it was $2.00 more expensive. The IMT-900 is described as an improvement over the IMT-500, comes postage paid for $17.99 from this excellent Amazon.com vendor and, unless someone accidentally steps on it, I expect it to last many decades (or a dozen battery changes -- whichever comes first). Altogether, this is an excellent buy and almost a quantum leap from my Korg of the "bad old days."
