(More customer reviews)In the product info section it says "produces less dust". well that's not really true it produces plenty of dust. If you want rossin that won't make dust get jade rossin. Other than the whole dust thing it's pretty good stuff and the plastic grip on the outside is excellent.

(More customer reviews)Overall this rosin is just a little more than OK. It is much better than the free rosin they give at the store, it does give off a bit of dust and I think that it doesn't have as much 'sticking power' as the Jade brand -- however this I bought for about 6 bucks, while the Jade brand is now selling around $16, so this one wins out. I would buy this again, but only after I've tried a few other kinds to see if there was something else better.
But yes, even for the $6 i think it's better than saving the $6 and just using the free rosin from the rental places...this one definately wins out.
I do like how it's in the spongy velvet, so it's soft on your hand but the rosin doesn't slide or anything from inside your palm.

(More customer reviews)I got these in cello and violin versions for my sons as they started learning violin and cello. Neither kid is terribly artsy or in to material things, but they seem to "get" that we wanted to give them a little something special and I think they'll try to keep these throughout their lives. The burling is very pretty and the box is well-finished. None of us here can provide expert comment on the rosin, but it does seem to work just fine on their student-level instruments.

The consistency of the rosin is softer then other brands I tried, and thus makes the application onto the bow hair much easier. The rosin stays on the hair for quite a long time, and treated bow produces very clean sound, without any harshness or hisses. Residue fall out onto the violin varnish seems less messy then from some stock rosins I tried. Wrapping the rosin in cloth/sponge is a nice touch - no plastic box to rattle inside your violin case, and your hands stay clean while handling it.
