I was looking for a rechargeable battery powered music stand light. At age 45, my eyes have begun to need more light (in addition to my reading glasses) in order to see printed music clearly. I've seen and tried several different portable designs. What I like about this one is that it uses a Lithium Ion battery so you can recharge it at any time without worrying about first fully discharging it. Also, it reaches a full charge in about 2 hours yet lasts at medium power (with NO dimming and ample brightness) for 5 hours - plenty for even the longest overtime gig. In a pinch, it can also run directly off the included AC adapter.
The 17 super-bright LED's provide plenty of bright white light to cover 2 pages across a stand and even 3 pages can be lit adequately.
The only thing I'm not crazy about is the exposed IC board holding the LED's inside the shade. It seems that a lens or diffuser of some sort would provide some protection for this. I haven't had it for very long but I anticipate that the unit will need to be carefully packed inside my gig bag when not in use or this part of the unit could become damaged.
Some nice features of this unit are that: it includes a 10" gooseneck that allows you to adjust the light to any position you might need on a music stand; the base unit has LED's to indicate that the unit is charging or that it has reached a full charge; it includes a lightweight carry bag for the unit. When you remove the stand clip, the entire unit can be made flat for storage inside the bag. Finally, the light is a bit costly. I found it for $99 including shipping. This might seem steep at first, but some other rechargeable LED lights out there run $40 - $60 and do not include the rechargeable batteries nor the A/C adapter. This is the nicest package in this category of light that I have found.
Update: After using this light for a year now, my concerns about it holding up have proven to be unfounded. The light works great and has held up perfectly. It's the brightest, whitest light on the bandstand at every gig and everybody that see it wants to get one for themselves. I'm very happy with my light!
