(More customer reviews)I am not a musician, but I love "playing" the ukulele as a way to amuse myself and relax at the end of a long day. Unfortunately I have trouble tuning my instrument because I am not so blessed with a tin ear. I have trouble determining when I have my uke strings in tune. I can get close, but often an off pitch string sounds OK to me.
I really never heard of an electronic tuner before I discovered the Korg CA-40 as a recommended product based on my purchasing history on the [...]. The price tag on the thing was so cheap I thought I could buy one and gamble that it was a remedy for my problem tuning the ukulele.
The tuner arrived and I was amazed at how easy it was to use and how nice my ukulele sounded once it was tuned properly. The Korg CA-40 "listens" to a string and an easily read screen along with a series of lights tell me what note a given string is sounding. The device automatically shows if a string is sharp or flat so I know to tighten or loosen it on the way to the proper sound.
I read some reviews of the Korg CA-40 by real musicians and was quickly intimidated by jargon and comments I didn't understand. I thought the tuner might be something a genuine amateur would find overly complicated to use. Not so--actually the tuner is probably more useful to a novice with a dumb ear than to the pro with perfect pitch. This thing is a winner.

Sound Out Function In addition to letting you tune visually using the meter, this digital tuner provides a Sound Out function that plays a reference tone through the internal speaker, allowing you to tune by ear. You can adjust the reference tone in semitone steps over a range of C4 through C5 (one octave) to accommodate a variety of instruments. Since the reference tone you specify is remembered, it's easy to sound it again whenever you need to.
Adjustable Calibration The Calibration function of this hand held tuner lets you adjust the pitch in 1 Hz steps over a range of 410 - 480 Hz in order to accommodate a variety of concert pitches, giving you the flexibility to tune accurately to any song or key. There's also a memory backup function that preserves the Calibration setting and Sound Out settings even when you turn off the power.
Auto Power Off Function The power of this digital tuner will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.
Long Battery Life The CA-40 is designed for long battery life, and allows approximately 85 hours of continuous use (continuous A4 input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

(More customer reviews)It's most likely that if you are purchasing this, you are being required to do so because your teacher has put it on your list of violin music to buy. The International Edition is probably the most expensive, but the binding is done much better than Schirmer's Edition, for example. Since this is an Etude book that you will likely use for years and years to come, it's probably best to purchase one with binding that won't fall apart in a year.
I purchased the 'cheaper' editions as a high school student and I have had to purchase International Editions of several of my standard pieces/etudes because the binding fell apart. If you are in it for the long run consider making an investment in quality binding

I don't know anything about violins but wanted to make it more interesting more my daughter to learn the instrument so decided to go with the color she picked. And she loved it !! Our teacher said this violin plays exactly the same as a regular violin and wished color violin was available when he was learning it. He has also recommended his other students to get them in black, blue, etc. I would recommend the violin to any child who is starting to learn the instrument. Once my daughter get better and by the time she gets to the full 4/4 size, I will upgrade to a regular natural color violin for her. Once thing, the violin bow that comes with this violin is still regular natural color. It is not available with different colors.

(More customer reviews)This review is for the full size 4/4 Palatino NV-450. I'm addressing some unfair negative reviews posted regarding the smaller size (1/4) of this same instrument.
Ok the first negative review is by someone who admits to not even having touched one himself. The second, I think isin't being fair.
Look, this is a beginners instrument. I bought this with 0 hours of experience playing the violin (at age 26 by the way). I bought this and started lessions with a highly reputed teacher located in the area of Berklee College of Music in Boston. The teacher had nothing but positive comments about the instrument.
It's solid spruce and maple and the pegs, fingerboard and chinrest are solid ebony. That's essentially what teachers are looking for in a student instrument. No violin "holds it's tune". That's why there's tuning pegs and fine tuners (this instrument has 4 fine tuners by the way really helping the student get accustomed to tuning). All good accoustic violins are made of wood and as such are subject to expansion and contraction in changing temperature and humidity conditions. When the wood contracts a bit, the pegs can become loose and require retuning, some peg drops can help reduce this but not eliminate it. The bridge is an average stock bridge. A student looking for an entry level instrument (like myself) hasn't often the money nor time to consult and hire a luthier to custom shave and fine tune thier bridge. I find the bridge that comes with this instrument, in it's stock condition carries the vibration from the strings to the body effectively and actually quite loud.
I will agree however that the bow it comes with has warped slightly and I'm looking for a replacement now. But heck, after two years with this instrument and a couple of sets of replacement strings, I'm more than happy with it's performance.
It's not a $10,000 violin, and doesn't claim to be. It's an entry level student voilin that I only spent about $150 on a couple years ago and have progressed quite a long way on.

While the bowings and fingerings in the printed version are useful, the facsimile of the original manuscript at the back of the book is very incomplete - only one of the three sonatos and two of the three Partitas, and even these are incomplete. The book was advertised as containing a facsimile of the original, not a partial facsimile.

Most of the songs are by Klaus Badelt and by Hans Zimmer and seem to match the music in the movie. The book also comes with a CD to play along to. Protec VIOLIN / VIOLA / CELLO BOW CASE Review

(More customer reviews)This is a "soft" case but the construction seems pretty sturdy and it's overall pretty well-made. I put a moderate amount of pressure on the outside of the case and it didn't cave in or break (of course, I wasn't trying to break it; I'm sure it would be crushed by a car, but so would my Bam violin case). Velvet-lined interior, and just the right size for my violin bow. The adjustable strap is nice, as well as the rosin pouch, and the handles seem pretty durable. One complaint is that there's nothing to secure the bow inside--no straps or holders--which is fine, because there's not a lot of space leftover, but I would have felt less worried about the bow getting bumped around if there had been something to hold it in place. Still, all in all it's pretty satisfactory.

Later I found out you only need about one drop for the whole body. It lasted me (including when I used to use overkill amount) one year using it usually once a week and I still have some left.
