Glaesel GL-2213-4 4/4 Brazilwood Violin Bow Review

I bought this to replace my old low-budget bow, and it's been a success in every way. It's smooth, draws a nice tone, and feels good in the hand. My only complaint is Musician's Friend's shipping department almost killed it- it was loose inside a very large box. It's just lucky that it wasn't damaged. Ordinarily they are an excellent vendor, so hopefully this was just a bad day for the shipping dept. The bow itself is an excellent value and gets a big thumbs-up.
Don't use the usual junky old box rosin; spend a few bucks more on a good-quality cake rosin.

Very nice bow. After two months of being "lightly" used, the wood at the tip split, what a shame. I think there was a flaw or a weak point in the grain of the wood. I contacted the company, and they had a replacement at my door within just a few days!

Glasser Fiberglass Bow with Horsehair (3/4 Violin) Review

Glasser Fiberglass Bow with Horsehair (3/4 Violin)

This came in good shape, took the rosin well, and sounds and feels responsive. But it's too big around; the stick is a large diameter, and it has a rubberized wrap that adds even more to the diameter (I would have much preferred a wire wrapping as most bows have). This was for the kids, a 3/4 size, and the grip size is just too big for their hands. It feels larger than my 4/4 regular bow. I'll keep it as a backup bow for our 3/4 fiddle, since I can use it OK, but I'm going to get a traditional brazilwood bow for the kids.

2 Full-size 4/4 Maple Violin Bridges Review

2 Full-size 4/4 Maple Violin Bridges

The bridges with notches for the strings are worth the extra money. These bridges need to be shaped and grooved to be used on a 4/4 size violin. There is enough wood to do that but it is not a beginner project. These seem to be for a bigger instrument than adversized.

Palatino Brazilwood Violin Bow, ¾ Size Review

Palatino Brazilwood Violin Bow, ¾ Size
Average Reviews:

Yes, the price is awesome and for a very beginner it probably will function, but the quality is not high. The one I got had a defect on the nut and also was not entirely straight. Overall did not look uniformly made--looked thrown together. I returned it, so we didn't ever play with it. However, it was wood and real horsehair. So, it was probably better than paying twice as much for an equally cheap fiberglass one like they sell in our local music store. So, if your budget is limited, it might be okay. At least it is wood and it is a great price.
