(More customer reviews)I purchased my BAM case a few months ago and am very pleased. There are many good qualities, but there are a few drawbacks.
First, the quality of the case is exceptional. Every part of the construction is solid, much more so than my last case (Negri). The interior is a semi-rigid foam covered in a velvety material. It has a little bit of give to it, even a little soft you might say.
Speaking of the interior, BAM has made a wise choice to put the accessory pouch at the bottom of the case rather than the top. This means that the frogs of the bows won't come crashing down on the lower bought of the instrument when you close the case. And it isn't a compartment either, but a removable, zippered pouch. I didn't think that I would have liked it so much, but it is actually very convenient.
There is room in the top of the case near the scroll of the instrument for a shoulder rest. There is just enough room for my bonmusica shoulder rest. Since this is by far the largest one that I have ever seen/used, I assume that there shouldn't be any problem storing a Kun, Wolf, or other comparable brand of shoulder rest.
The exterior is also very high quality. It is certainly very sleek and stylish. This is accomplished by putting the sheetmusic pouch in the bottom rather than on the top of the lid. But that leads me to my first semi-complaint about the BAM case: there is not much room for your music. The pouch is so small that you shouldn't expect to be able to store more than about one or two smallish books. I am not able to keep my Flesch Scale Studies book (which has a spiral binder) in the case. My Negri case could hold enough music for a week's worth of practicing, but not so with the BAM.
There are only two bow holders. It may not be a big problem for most, but in my case that means that I have to leave two bows at home.
The other problem is that the lid does not really want to stay open. You have to have it just so or it will slam shut. When you're trying to put your instrument, bow, and everything else away after a rehearsal this becomes very awkward. You really need one hand to keep it open.
Also, there is no latch to keep the case closed. You need to rely on the zippers alone. It is a small thing, but it is noticeable. There is a nice locking feature though; the zipper-pulls attach to a 3-digit combination lock.
But these really are small things and wouldn't dissuade me from buying another BAM case in the future. To sum up, the workmanship and design are really top-notch. You're getting a lot for your money. Highly recommended!
