The fit on the compartment cover is over-sized--if you really work it the cover will very tightly fit into the step it supposed to fit into.
I bought this case from Woodwinds and Brasswinds (WWBW). First case the D-ring pulled out of stitching only after 1-1/2 days--case is still usable if you carry it only by the handle but we purchased it so my daughter could wear it like a back pack or over the shoulder. WWBW sent a replacement free of charge. It arrived a week later and the bottom D-Ring which was already defective was thrown in loose in the box; the person at the warehouse shipped a defective case and knew it was defective!
Received a full refund--I cannot fault the customer service of WWBW. Spend a little more on a better case!
If you don't have the money for a more expensive case, I figured out how to repair the D-ring attachments.
Items you will need: 1. Sewing machine with Denim needle. 2. Black Polyester Thread. 3. Styrofoam or Cardboard about 18" long and 4" wide. 4. Phillips #1 (or cross head) screw driver 5. Empty Sewing Machine Bobbin 6. Med/Standard Sewing foot and Scissors 7. Large work surface and some patience 8. Double sided tape (Optional).
Here's how you do repair D-ring attachments: First remove violin and all contents from case. Zip up case. Carefully with screw driver remove screws and place the screw in the cardboard/Styrofoam in a way that lets you know where the screws came from (this is important because of the construction of the case). Also remove the handle screws, screw under lock flap and place screws into cardboard/Styrofoam. Do not remove screw of bow holders! Place screws and handle aside. Unzip case. DO NOT PRY WITH TOOLS--HANDS ONLY, work the top lip up and over the foam core (this is the type of foam used in car bumpers light weight and strong). "Close" the inner case and work bottom off and down of the foam core. If you do not have black polyester thread on a bobbin, load/wind bobbin with thread. Because the case is a denim type fabric and your sewing over webbing the stitch distance cannot be small, set to medium straight stitch. Check stitching on a scrap piece of fabric doubled over. Replace D-ring attachment loop/webbing under the webbing running width wise. Check distance to ring to sewing machine foot. Push needle through just before reaching Ring loop--slowly start IN REVERSE for 1/2" to 3/4" (12-18mm)release reverse button/lever, double back, stitch over loop and past loop 1/2" to 3/4" (12-18mm) then reverse, double backing over stitching back to start point. Repeat at all ring loops (don't want to have to do this again). For additional strength, I also made a "X" pattern on each loop by starting in one corner stitching to the diagonal corner, reversing and doubling back to the start point. Then again in the opposite diagonal corners. Trim away all loose thread. You may used some double sided tape to hold case to foam core. Replace cover over bottom of foam core carefully working zipper lip over the felt lining, then replace over over top of core again carefully working zip lip over lining. Zip cover closed. If necessary tug on cover to align screw holes. Starting from ends take correct screw from cardboard/Styrofoam holder and insert into hole it came from. Because thin wood is glued to the foam core, slight variations in the threads from screw to screw can tear out the wood--just tighten screw until snug. Case is repaired.
DEPENDING ON YOUR SEWING EXPERIENCE AND MACHINE YOU MAY HAVE TROUBLE ATTEMPTING THIS REPAIR.
